About Johnstones Furniture

We are a small family business established in 1972, as a one man business, making wooden chair and sofa frames for the upholstery trade. In 1980 we had 10 employees and purchased more up-to-date machinery.

Then in 2003 we made the business into a Limited Company, with founder Keith Johnstone (Managing Director), Doreen Johnstone (Director), Melanie Irwin (Director) and Kevin Johnstone (Director).

Since 2012 Melanie Irwin has been the sole Director of the company, with Keith Johnstone and Doreen Johnstone semi retiring, though still keeping a helping hand in the running of the business.

We specialise in fully polished frames for chairs, sofas, stools and tables, for hospitals, nursing homes, hotels and restaurants. Also stuffover frames for the upholstery trade.

Today we are still a small family run business employing 4 fully skilled workmen. Andrew Johnstone is the Production Manager, who has a background in engineering and specialises in Bespoke Furniture for Interior Designers. He also does all the prototype work for the business.

All the timbers used are from sustainable sources, English timbers are covered by the Forestry Commission and German timbers are covered by the equivalent European Body.
